Words “You’re Grounded” Gain Renewed Vigor with iPhone App by RIIS, LLC

RIIS, LLC announced they’ve developed a high-tech method for disciplining teens and tweens with their new iPhone application, You’re Grounded.

RIIS, LLC, an IT consulting firm specializing in application development, today announced they’ve developed a high-tech method for disciplining teens and tweens with their new iPhone application, You’re Grounded.

This app allows parents block Facebook, Twitter and Youtube on their wireless router at home by tapping one simple button on their iPhones.

The idea came from one of RIIS’s clients who complained that sending their child to their room was no longer a punishment. From the computers in their bedrooms, kids can catch up with friends on Facebook and tweet about their mean parents on Twitter while watching a friend's latest science-experiment-gone-wrong on YouTube.

"As IT professionals, we know that everyone has the ability to block their children’s online access by managing their router settings," said Godfrey Nolan, president of RIIS. "But, we recognize that most parents aren’t IT professionals and they don’t know that those features exist, or they don’t feel confident in using them."

“Non-techy parents need an easy way to manage the sites that their kids can access... there should be an app for that!" concluded Nolan and team.

The RIIS team used their integration expertise and unique talents in straightforward, no-nonsense user interface design to create the easy-to-use app, You're Grounded. They built an interactive prototype of the app; asked their client and a few other non-techy parents to test it; and in a few short weeks, built the app using the prototype as their guide.

Now, when parents send their kids to their rooms, they can simply open the app, choose the sites to block and press the "You're Grounded" button.

The result is huge: the words "You're Grounded" will once again send teens and tweens to socially disconnected isolation where they can sit and think about what they did.

Currently, the app requires a Linksys Router (WRT54G2). Future plans for You're Grounded call for more options to allow parents to block specific computers, additional websites and protocols and connect to a wider variety of routers.

The app is available as a free download in Apple’s App Store.
