CLRSearch Real Estate Search Engine identified which attributes its consumers considered most important to create the list of the best places to avoid a natural disaster. The released list shows the Top 10 Counties to Avoid Natural Disasters.
Based on a Facebook survey, CLRSearch users ranked natural events in terms of fear when searching for a place to live. The list was assembled by evaluating natural disaster indexes for tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes and hail.
Carbon County, Utah topped this list but Hawaii and Michigan were the big winners with four counties each in the top 10. By garnering the top spot, Carbon County received the highest combined score after evaluating CLRSearch community demographic data to find the best place to live to avoid a natural disaster. Located in the northern part of Utah, Carbon County most prominently includes the city of Price. The county has a population of 20,176.
With four counties on the list, Hawaii offers security amongst the breathtaking natural beauty of crystal clear water and mountains, not to mention average high temperatures in the 80s. Although Hawaii has three counties in the top 5, we did not factor in the risk of a volcanic event. Michigan, also with four counties, offers the longest freshwater coastline surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes and more lighthouses than any other state.
The survey showed that tornadoes and earthquakes generated the most fear and received the most votes with regard to natural disasters to avoid when searching for a home. Hail had the least negative impact when searching for a place to live.
