"I truly believe that an informed and educated cancer patient will find a way to get the best care, and to live better and longer," said Dr. Charles M. Balch
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 06, 2011
Having served as Editor-in-Chief since the launch of Patient Resource Publishing, Dr. Charles M. Balch now adds the role of President to his long list of credentials for this award-winning national media brand, dedicated to cancer patient advocacy. Company founder and CEO Linette Atwood made the announcement this morning as ASCO 2011 gets underway in Chicago.
"This is an extraordinary step forward for Patient Resource," Atwood said. "Under the strategic leadership of Dr. Balch, we can accelerate the delivery of comprehensive, reliable content to cancer patients across a number of media platforms."
Recognized globally as a distinguished clinical and academic surgical oncologist, Dr. Balch is also the former EVP and CEO of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). He has lead the way in the national grassroots movement known as patient advocacy, serving as a tireless and vocal advocate for those dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
"I was a cancer patient advocate long before that phrase made it to the common lexicon," Balch said. "I truly believe that an informed and educated cancer patient will find a way to get the best care, and to live better and longer. A patient who fights back using the power of information will be a better partner in the medical treatment decision making process, and be better equipped to deal with both the physical and emotional consequences of this disease."
In fact, Dr. Balch adds, it is exactly that mission that initially drew him to Patient Resource Publishing.
"Cancer patients, their families and caregivers rely on Patient Resource as a vital link in their cancer journey," Balch said. "The company's mission is to gather and distribute state of the art information patients need to fight back against this disease. In my new leadership role with Patient Resource, I'm making it my mission to deliver on that promise."
In related news, Dr. Balch announced his departure from the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore to relocate to Texas where he will teach at the Southwest Medical School in Dallas alongside his son, also a surgical oncologist. He will continue as the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Surgical Oncology, regarded as the premier medical journal for surgical oncologists worldwide, as well as teaching, mentoring, and lecturing.
