Do you have an idea powered by technology that can make someone else’s life, your community and our world better? Big Nerd Ranch wants to help realize one of these extraordinary ideas, said Aaron Hillegass.

Big Nerd Ranch is kicking off its Mobile for Global Good Contest, rounding up the best mobile app ideas to benefit a 501(c) non-profit organization. Entries are being accepted now through June 24 at bignerdranch.com/mobileforglobalgood.

“Thirty years ago Steve Jobs said that computers are bicycles for the mind,” said Aaron Hillegass, founder and CEO of Big Nerd Ranch. “Just as a bike improves how efficiently a human can move, a computer amplifies what we can do with our minds.”

“Today I challenge you to use technology as the bicycle for your mind,” Hillegass continued. “Do you have an idea powered by technology that can make someone else’s life, your community and our world better? The possibilities are staggering and my company, Big Nerd Ranch, wants to help realize one of these extraordinary ideas.”

Big Nerd Ranch has corralled a panel of technical and non-profit experts to help select the best mobile app idea from those submitted online. It’s the idea not the level of experience that will be rewarded. The creativity and innovation, feasibility and the impact of each idea will be considered in selecting the winner. Impact will be judged by quality not quantity.

Priceless prize package at stake
The winner will be brought to Atlanta, all expenses paid, to attend one of the Big Nerd Ranch iOS mobile app bootcamps. Then they’ll spend another week in one-on-one mentoring with the Nerds to finalize the app and load it to iTunes.

Possibly the most valuable part of the prize package, however, is learning how to develop an iOS mobile app – a sought-after skill that will continue to grow in demand.
