Companies That Care 2011 Honor Roll

“Our commitment to Service Standards of Behavior establishes a culture of ethical behavior and integrity in providing quality care and services to patients,” explains Katie Bata, vice president of Human Resources, Sherman Health.

Sherman Health, hospital and healthcare system based in Elgin, Illinois, has made the 2011 Honor Roll for the Center for Companies That Care.

The Honor Roll, a national list recognizing employers for outstanding workplace practices and active community involvement, includes privately-held and publicly-traded organizations, as well as not-for-profit employers.

“Our commitment to Service Standards of Behavior establishes a culture of ethical behavior and integrity in providing quality care and services to patients,” explains Katie Bata, vice president of Human Resources, Sherman Health.

Companies that care respect employees and are committed to community service. They demonstrate 10 Characteristics that go to appreciating people, work/life balance, and giving back. This uniqueness defines the standard for all organizations that strive to be recognized as best places to work and being socially responsible.

“Sherman Health’s partnership with other health and educational organizations creates value for patients and employees,” says Marci Koblenz, founder and president, Center for Companies That Care. “Employees can apply the learning in their daily jobs as well as on committees, some of which make large scale decisions for the hospital. Sherman, in turn, does an excellent job showing appreciation for their employees’ efforts - e-mails, thank you notes and recognition programs provide positive reinforcement.”

Sherman Health, a charter Community of Caring member, is dedicated to the well-being of their employees and stands by their philosophy of assuring personnel are paid fairly based on performance and market data. As an organization, Sherman believes that in order to provide the best care to patients they must employ the best personnel.

Honor Roll recipients were officially honored at a 360° engagement conference in Portland in May. Many Honor Roll organizations shared their best practices during the conference.
Center for Companies That Care is a national, 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to engaging employers in improving the lives of employees, families and communities.
