R. J. Buckley Publishing announces the upcoming release of Vintage Connor: The Blonde in the Lotus Elite by Robert Baty. Vintage Connor (ISBN: 978-0-9819654-7-5, Trade Paper, 324 pages, Category: Mystery) will be available wherever fine books are sold on July 1, 2011.
A sizzling debut set against the backdrop of vintage car collecting, Vintage Connor is a riveting, race-to-the-finish read from a dynamic new voice in the world of mystery.
When Ray Connor wore a badge, he drove a Crown Vic down Oakland’s meanest streets. Now, Connor pilots a vintage Alfa Romeo and finds classic cars for rich collectors. Inevitably, he also finds trouble.
That trouble starts when Evie, an old flame, shows up asking for his help in finding the truth about what happened to her 21--year-old daughter Janey, found dead during Monterey’s classic car weekend. The inquest ruled Janey’s death a suicide, but Evie isn’t buying it.
Unable to refuse the woman he loved and lost twenty years ago, Connor agrees to investigate. With some old-school detective work and the help of his ex-partner Vince Hendrix, Connor launches an investigation into what really happened that weekend in Monterey.
As he pursues his quest, Connor soon realizes that Evie may be right; the circumstances surrounding Janey’s death are more than a little mysterious—and all signs point to murder. But Connor also discovers that Edie herself may be hiding something.
Caught between deception and desire, Connor finds himself swept up in the alluring and exclusive world of elite cars, high rollers, and big money. But beneath the glamorous façade lurks a deadly underbelly, and Connor will have to confront the reality that both vintage cars and vintage women can be fast, beautiful—and dangerous.
Shifting from the gritty streets of Oakland to the pebbled beaches of Monterey, Vintage Connor delivers full-throttle suspense from page one. Unfolding like a modern film noir and pulsing with the rhythm and wit of the pulp classics that inspired it, Vintage Connor takes readers on a breakneck speed ride.
