Grand Rapids, MI (PRWEB) June 08, 2011
HelloLife is adding its voice to those in favor of the USDA’s new dietary guideline structure, My Plate.
Today the company applauded USDA’s new dietary guideline icon, My Plate, rolled out on June 2, 2011. The new graphic is in the shape of a dinner plate and is the replacement for the previous dietary icon, My Food Pyramid. The new representation divides a plate into fruits, vegetables, grains, protein and dairy. The icon is less complex than the previous versions of the food guidelines and will help to simplify healthy meal planning.
HelloLife is founded on the principles of good health through lifestyle choices and prevention, and sees the transformation as key to people visualizing what they eat every day, and thereby making healthier real-world choices.
"We all know what a dinner plate looks like, and although many may not be divided quite as neatly as My Plate, this icon offers a great idea of how we should be filling our plates - breakfast, lunch, or dinner,” said Jessica Butcher, RD, one of HelloLife’s Health Coaches. “While I do not think My Plate is going to be the magical solution to ill-health or obesity in the United States, I am quite pleased with both the 2010 Dietary Guidelines as well as the simplified guide to healthy choices."
My Plate is sure to be a hot topic within communities of the soon-to-launch social media site, The HelloLife Network. The site will offer several avenues for the discussion of healthy eating and dieting. It will also feature relevant news articles and blogs from members and HelloLife staff.
