The Premier Sports Campus of Lakewood Ranch is pleased to announce another soccer organization has booked a series of tournaments at the Lakewood Ranch complex. Elite Tournaments, of Maryland, confirms it will host four soccer events over five weekends between December 2011 and October 2012. “Our event calendar is getting very full,” said Tim Mulqueen, director of sports at Lakewood Ranch. “We knew that our campus, with the number of fields in one place and the central location of Lakewood Ranch, would attract a lot of attention nationwide, and as word spreads, we are being inundated with inquiries!”

Several events and tournaments have been booked at the new complex that just opened in April of this year including soccer goalkeeper clinics this summer and an academy put on by one of the best goalkeepers in U.S. soccer, Tim Howard. Howard is a current player on the U.S. Men’s National Team, World Cups 2006/2010 and Everton FC Goalkeeper. Howard said that the Premier Sports Campus will be one of the great playing and training environments in America for all levels of soccer. “I am excited to develop a goalkeeper academy at the campus and to become a part of the soccer community here in Lakewood Ranch,” he said.” America’s future national team players are playing on youth fields across the country and the Premier Sports Campus is the perfect facility for maximizing youth development.”

Elite Tournaments, coming this winter, is associated with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The two organizations have partnered to stage elite showcase tournaments and coaching education events across the United States.

The NSCAA is based in Kansas, and is the largest soccer coaches' organization in the world. Since its founding in 1941, it has grown to include more than 30,000 members who coach both genders at all levels of the sport. In addition to a national rankings program for colleges and high schools, NSCAA offers an extensive recognition program that presents nearly 10,000 individual awards every year. It fulfills its mission of coaching education through a nationwide program of clinics and week-long courses, teaching more than 6,000 soccer coaches each year.

The goal of the tournaments in Lakewood Ranch this winter is to bring big-league players and coaches from across the country together in the U12 –U19 age categories of competitive soccer, and for the coaches association to recruit nationally.

“We’ve scouted for the best fields in the nation for these tournaments,” said Michael Libber, president of Elite Tournaments, “and The Premier Sports Campus is one of the best facilities we’ve seen in terms of quality, number of fields, future facilities, perfect weather, and location. Up north there are not a lot of events in the winter due to weather. The Lakewood Ranch complex is by far one of the most top-notch facilities in Florida and in the entire country.”

With the use of the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Libber plans to expand his 11-year-old company to a larger geographic location and plans to bring in NSCAA college coaches to the event for the participants to showcase their skills with coaching seminars in the evenings.
