KMI’s software stood out for a number of reasons. We felt their system had the best breadth and depth of functionality and no other vendor we looked at could match KMI’s usability.

Enerplus, one of Canada’s oldest and largest independent oil and gas producers, has selected KMI to deliver enterprise environment, safety and sustainability management software.
The implementation of the KMI EHS Software Suite is another step in Enerplus’ long history and deep commitment to both environmental stewardship and worker safety.
Enerplus’ Sustainability Information Management System (SIMS) project is expected to enhance existing initiatives which include work on reducing waste, improving the efficiency of fresh water use and energy consumption, reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions intensity and providing resources, training and technology to meet corporate environmental objectives. Enerplus is also an active participant in the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers ("CAPP") Responsible Canadian Energy (RCE) Program. The RCE program was developed to measure the performance of the Canadian oil and gas industry in the areas of environmental, health, safety and social performance, to assess continuous performance improvement, and to demonstrate transparency in the reporting of industry performance. The program currently focuses on key performance indicators in four areas: people, land, air and water.
One of the most important goals of this system rollout is to equip the Enerplus Safety and Social Responsibility team with a powerful tool that will allow them to leverage industry best practices in the areas of health, safety, environment, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. Kym Fawcett - Manager, Safety and Social Responsibility (S&SR) for Enerplus said, “Senior management has made it a priority to make our sites as safe and efficient as possible which is why S&SR risks are regularly reviewed by our Board of Directors and Executive S&SR Steering Committees. KMI’s system will be central to delivering the information that is needed by both operations and senior management which is why we ensured everyone who has a stake in the software had input on the selection.”
After a lengthy system comparison process involving a number of EHS software providers, Enerplus management felt KMI stood out from its peers. According to Ms. Fawcett, “KMI’s software stood out for a number of reasons. We felt their system had the best breadth and depth of functionality and no other vendor we looked at could match KMI’s usability. The system is intuitive which we believe will ensure a successful rollout and long-term acceptance of the system at all levels of the company."
Matt Airhart, Director of Business Development for KMI, added “Enerplus really put us to the test during the proposal process. They wanted a web-based system that was intuitive and flexible, with a full range of capability and a total cost of ownership that made sense across their large and growing operations. Our team worked hard to demonstrate the functionality, design and cost benefits of going with our solution and we are very pleased we came out on top.”
Enerplus Corporation, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, is one of Canada’s oldest and largest independent oil and gas producers. With a $9 million valuation at the company’s inception in 1986, Enerplus is now valued at over $6 billion. The company’s production of approximately 80,000 BOE/day of crude oil and natural gas is derived from assets throughout Western Canada and the United States. Enerplus contributes generously to its community by focusing on four pillars of commitment: Education, Health & Research, Safety & Environment, and Community Living. They meet these commitments through volunteer work and through contributions to non-profit and community-based organizations.
KMI is quickly becoming the industry standard in flexible, scalable, and usable web-based software solutions that help companies operate more sustainably, safely, and efficiently. KMI enables companies to reduce injuries, increase the effectiveness of regulatory compliance initiatives, perform audits and inspections, manage Greenhouse Gas reporting, and initiate or improve corporate sustainability programs. KMI is a trusted supplier of EHS Management Information Systems (EMIS) to global manufacturing, energy, mining, biotech, food service, and transportation companies ranging in size from a few hundred to over half a million employees.
