Company will also operate the new biomass steam generation plant…

UGL Services®, a division of UGL Limited (ASX: UGL), today announced that it has received a five-year contract with two one-year renewal options from Green Mountain College to provide facilities services and grounds management, as well as to operate GMC’s biomass power generation plant.

The company is maintaining 20 buildings comprising more than 500,000 square feet of academic, administrative, athletic and residential space, as well as 155 acres of natural and landscaped property, and athletic fields.

Green Mountain College has been named the greenest college in the nation by Sierra magazine, which identified the school as "the MVP when it comes to creativity." At the heart of GMC's environmental mission is a commitment to sustainability and a 37-credit core curriculum Environmental Liberal Arts General Education Program.

UGL Services fits into GMC’s environmental culture by providing sustainable facilities cleaning and maintenance programs, including UGL Services GreenClean® cleaning program that uses reduced chemicals and advanced equipment. UGL Services also builds on GMC’s energy management, sustainable grounds management and recycling programs, and is also responsible for auxiliary services in the mail room and campus event management.

“We were attracted by UGL Services’ pioneering environmental record in facilities management on college campuses,” said GMC Vice President of Finance and Administration Joseph A. Manning. “They bring a commitment to our ideals along with the management expertise, technologies and processes to consistently deliver outstanding results.”

In addition to campus-wide facilities services, UGL Services is providing staff and management to operate GMC’s combined heat and power (CHP) biomass plant. The plant will reduce GMC’s oil consumption and CO2 equivalent emissions by more than 80 percent while producing 400,000 kWh of electricity per year. The plant has contributed to GMC becoming just the second college in the U.S. to achieve climate neutrality, and the first to accomplish it through efficiency, adoption of clean energy, and purchase of quantifiable local carbon offsets.

“We look forward to working with the campus community,” said UGL Services Director of Operations Rob Ryan. “In addition to applying our sustainable facilities programs, we anticipate supporting academic and student programs through our example and participation.”
