Restaurants now have a one-stop online source for information on energy efficiency.
BizEnergy (http://www.bizenergy.ca), launched in November, 2010, features everything from DIY tips (http://www.bizenergy.ca/how-tos) to advice on equipment purchasing to lists of energy rebates (http://www.bizenergy.ca/rebates/).
Produced in partnership with Enbridge Gas Distribution and the Ontario Restaurant, Hotel and Motel Association (ORHMA), BizEnergy’s resources include information on the latest energy-efficient products, efficiency tips and tricks from restaurant industry experts, real-life energy efficiency case studies, and access to money-saving programs, energy rebates, and incentives.
Why BizEnergy? Because there’s really no pretty way to say it: restaurants are energy hogs.
According to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants use five times more energy per square foot than any other type of commercial establishment, with energy costs representing approximately 30% of a building’s annual budget.
Of course, energy efficiency is good for the environment. But it’s essential to a restaurant’s bottom line. Restaurants operate on a razor-thin profit margin—between 4% and 6%, typically—so given a 5% profit margin, every dollar saved in energy costs is like an extra $20 in sales.
According to Fatima Finnegan, Director of Corporate Marketing and Development, BizEnergy is a valuable resource for busy restaurant industry professionals.
"Our partnership with BizEnergy and Enbridge allows us to stay committed to our members with respect to energy conservation and efficiency. This initiative gives any operator the ease and comfort to find information that is not readily available in such a succinct fashion. This in itself will allow our members to find anything from incentives that are available to them to energy tips and information."
Launched in November, 2010, BizEnergy is quickly becoming one of Canada’s primary sites for information on energy efficiency for the restaurant industry. Working in partnership with Enbridge Gas Distribution and the Ontario Restaurant, Hotel and Motel Association, BizEnergy provides articles, tools and tips for restaurant professionals to increase energy efficiency and decrease energy costs.
