Anchorage AK (PRWEB) June 13, 2011
As part of Alaska Communications’ commitment to youth and education, the company today presented a $10,000 gift to Alaska PRIDE, a program dedicated to providing a positive environment for youth after school.
NBC’s “Today” show included Alaska Communications’ donation as part of the show’s 10th annual “Lend a Hand” tour on Monday, June 13. Alaska Communications is also gifting the charity an additional dollar, up to $5,000, every time a new Facebook fan or Twitter follower joins the company’s social media sites, for 24 hours after the “Today” show segment airs.
Roker and the “Today” team travel the country every year delivering donations and supplies to charities in need. The first stop on this year’s tour was Anchorage where they surprised Alaska resident and former pro football star Ma’o Tosi, who founded the Alaska PRIDE program, with donations from local and national companies. Alaska PRIDE uses music, art, dance and athletics to help create a fun, safe environment for local teens while also teaching them tools to lead positive, successful lives.
“The success of our youth affects us all. We are incredibly honored to be a part of something so special and to support such an exceptional program,” said Eric Lazo, Alaska Communications vice president of marketing. “It is humbling to see what we can do when we come together to support our community in ways that make a lasting difference. We are a company of 850 people who live in Alaska and care about Alaskans. We are committed to the community we serve and want to help create a positive future for our children.”
