Menlo Park, CA (PRWEB) June 14, 2011
Canaan Partners, a leading multi-billion dollar global venture capital firm, announced today that Warren Lee has been promoted to general partner. Lee joined the firm’s East Coast office in 2005 and has played an important role in building Canaan’s position as one of the world’s leading digital media investors.
As head of Canaan’s New York City office, Lee is expanding on the firm’s early focus on digital media by investing in startups that leverage the creative know-how of Madison Avenue and the technological advances of Silicon Valley. Canaan’s first investment in New York City was in DoubleClick in 1997.
Lee led Canaan’s investment in Associated Content and worked closely with management on its successful acquisition by Yahoo in 2010. He also led early investments in New York City-based companies blip.tv, the largest independent video network in the world and the place to discover the best in original web programming; Peer39, the leader in semantic advertising technologies; Tremor Video, now the world’s largest independent online video advertising technology company; and Vivox, the number one integrated voice platform for the Social Web with over 50 million users in 180+ countries.
To help promote entrepreneurship in New York, Lee hosts the Startup@Work Founder Speakers Series, in which successful entrepreneurs and angel investors, such as Scott Kurnit, Dave Morgan, Ron Conway, Steve Hafner, Stephen and Heidi Messer, and Esther Dyson are interviewed in front of a live audience of entrepreneurs and students. He also co-founded the NYC Turing Fellowship Program, which matches top computer science and engineering students from across the country with paid summer internships at over 20 of New York City’s leading technology startups.
Before joining Canaan Partners, Lee worked at Comcast Interactive Capital, where he led investments in five companies that have been acquired for over $700 million in total. Prior to that, he worked at The Boston Consulting Group and Sun Microsystems. Lee holds a B.S. in computer science and B.A. in economics from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
