New York, NY (PRWEB) June 16, 2011
The provocative, egocentric, and satiric paintings of interiors by "emerging" New York artist Lauder Bowden, age 65, will be included in the Group Show entitled "Places" at the Stephan Stoyanov Gallery located in the hot cutting-edge Gallery Cluster found on lower Orchard Street in New York's historic Lower East Side.
Bowden’s unique take on the tradition of painting interiors continues the thread of looking to our created environment as a reflection of our culture. Says Bowden, “All walls are mirrors. The images we leave to posterity of our world speak of our culture, our achievements, and how we want the world to remember us - perhaps with a little editorial comment on the part of the artist or the patron." “Places” presents the continuing tradition of this artistic task.
In the words of David Rimanelli, the art historian, “ …Bowden’s paintings share certain affinities with a number of contemporary artists also interested in the formation of taste and the demands of the market place …” Interior Design Magazine Oct 97.
Bowden’s works are either hand painted or digital paintings on canvas employing his sinuous line, richly colored and textural backgrounds with his signature use of typography. His work is in the collections of The Prudential Insurance Company, Standard Oil of Indiana, Wingate and Cullen NY, The Hebrew Home for the Aged, Liscum-McCormack-Van Voorhies NY, and The Granary, Sharon, CT, as well as numerous private collections in the United States and abroad.
