Our challenge of linking this large population requires health information exchange functionality that integrates with disparate EMR/EHR systems and provides the correct clinical data at the point-of-care.
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 16, 2011
The Institute for Health Technology Transformation has announced a webinar entitled “Finding Success in a Large and Diverse Multi-State HIE” that will take place June 22, 2011 at 1:00pm EST.
The webinar will feature Laura McCrary, Ed.D, Executive Director, Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN), and Heather Boyle-Townsend, Client Relations Director, ICA. Dr. McCrary and Ms. Boyle-Townsend will provide a high-level overview of the KHIN project discussing how this model works well for both urban and rural communities and how it is bringing this community model to all participants, not just to hospitals.

This client case study will also discuss how KHIN defines a community as well as the challenges of linking both urban and rural settings with their implicit differences. Kansas has more critical access hospitals than any other state in the U.S., and Dr. McCrary and Ms. Boyle-Townsend will share how this model can be replicated elsewhere in the country.
“KHIN provides services to all of Kansas and portions of northwest Missouri encompassing large urban and rural areas,” said Laura McCrary. “KHIN’s goal is to connect 80% of healthcare providers in the service area including 163 hospitals, 4500 physicians, 100 public health departments, 40 community mental health centers and 400 long term care facilities. Our challenge of linking this large population requires health information exchange functionality that integrates with disparate EMR/EHR systems and provides the correct clinical data at the point-of-care. ICA’s CareAlign® was the tool we needed to accomplish this complex task.”
