Our goal for Urban Adventurer is not only to satisfy a need for other adventurers like ourselves, but to also spread the spirit of exploration and responsibility that's part of Vermont's fiber to the rest of the country.

E-commerce retailer urbanadventurer.com announced its launch today. Urban Adventurer sells bags and lifestyle products for the average man's quest towards striking a balance between ambition and exploration: whether it's a stylish briefcase by Knomo, a practical messenger bag by Timbuk2 or a rugged backpack by Patagonia. The company was started by two Vermont women, Jennifer Metayer and Jessica Rothman.
For Metayer and Rothman, blending their mutual love of travel and sense of adventure that was cultivated growing up together in the Green Mountain State was only natural. “Jessica and I have been traveling together since we were kids, but no matter where in the world we end up - whether it's New York, Cancun or Salzburg - we always notice the same kind of person,” remarks Metayer, “He's that guy that you see on the streets, the beach, or a hiking trail who doesn't just fit into the background: he transcends his surroundings and always looks at ease.”
It was this type of man - and a failing suitcase on a business trip to China - that inspired Metayer and Rothman to create a place where people like themselves could find the gear they would need for any adventure. “I’ve lived in both the city and the country,” explains Rothman, “but I’ve always aimed for a balance between the two. I consider myself to be pretty ambitious and enjoy a fast paced lifestyle, but at the same time I crave the sense of exploration and peace that comes with country living to help bring me back down to earth. Jennifer and I have learned so far that there are a lot of people out there who feel the same way!"
Metayer and Rothman hope that in fusing their business interest with their love of adventure that they'll be able to fill a void. “Our goal for Urban Adventurer is not only to satisfy a need for other adventurers like ourselves, but to also spread the spirit of exploration and responsibility that's part of Vermont's fiber to the rest of the country,” said Metayer. Urban Adventurer is also currently assembling an offering of environmentally friendly and sustainable products that they hope to launch within the next few months.
