Enhancement provides detailed coverage of more than 250 drugs specific to neonatal patients.

“Dosing information for this vulnerable population must be specific, since organ function and aspects of drug response differ significantly from infants and older children,” Bonfiglio commented.

Lexicomp, a leading provider of clinical information and drug data solutions for healthcare professionals, announced today that they have made significant enhancements to their information by adding a specific field dedicated to dosing for the neonatal population. The new field contains neonatal dosing information that has been enhanced and highlighted in its own section to reduce confusion. This allows clinicians to locate the information specific to the neonatal patient population, make better decisions, and avoid dosing errors. The enhancement provides detailed coverage on neonatal dosing for more than 250 drugs, significantly more than any other neonatal dosing database available in the industry.

Mark Bonfiglio, PharmD and Chief Content Officer for Lexicomp, believes the new neonatal dosing field gives this vital information appropriate emphasis in the database. “Dosing information for this vulnerable population must be specific, since organ function and aspects of drug response differ significantly from infants and older children,” Bonfiglio commented.

As the leader in pediatric dosing and drug information, Lexicomp has provided resources for safe and effective dosing for pediatrics and neonates for more than 20 years. Remaining in accordance with Lexicomp’s publishing model and its expert contributor model, this new information has been reviewed by a panel of expert neonatologists and NICU pharmacists to ensure the most up-to-date and accurate information is incorporated. Going forward Lexicomp has a dedicated, professional staff that will continue to enhance this section beyond just dosing information and provide the specific information that can be relied upon by those treating this patient population.

This increased focus on the neonatal population has prompted a title change to Lexicomp’s Pediatric Dosage Handbook as well as the electronic database Pediatric Lexi-Drugs™. These resources will be renamed the Pediatric & Neonatal Dosage Handbook and Pediatric & Neonatal Lexi-Drugs™ respectively. The field is now available to all Lexicomp Online™ and On-Hand™ subscribers within Pediatric & Neonatal Lexi-Drugs, covering a total of 900 drugs. The 18th edition of the Pediatric & Neonatal Dosage Handbook will be available in mid-August.
