Malvern, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) June 16, 2011
The Luma Center™ for Development and Learning at Valley Forge Educational Services in Malvern, PA introduces a new school-year program, Speech and Language Explorers, to meet the needs of young children with speech/language-based learning challenges. The program, which will meet Monday-Friday from 8:30am-11:30am, will be led by a speech/language pathologist and will provide a rich, language-based curriculum to 4-6 year-olds in a small group environment.
The program – the first of its kind in the Chester County region - is designed particularly to meet the needs of children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech or other speech/language-based disabilities. Social interaction skills and occupational therapy also play an integral part of the program.
“Speech disorders like Childhood Apraxia of Speech are often difficult to diagnose or clumped into a larger diagnosis especially when they co-exist with other developmental disorders,” said Nancy Allard, Director of The Luma Center. “As a result, we are missing the opportunity for targeted intervention to develop the specific motor learning necessary such as those provided in our new Speech and Language Explorers program.”
The Luma Center™ offers services for families and children with developmental and learning challenges, including a slate of therapeutic and social-development groups, many of which are now enrolling for fall. In addition to Speech and Language Explorers, these include a Foundations school-year program for students with mild to moderate developmental delays and social development groups for preschool through middle school students. These groups provide extra support in the areas of language, motor, sensory and social skills under the guidance of experienced facilitators. A complete list of offerings is available at http://www.lumacenter.org.
In addition to groups and programs, the Center’s experienced staff offer comprehensive occupational, physical, speech and language evaluations and individual therapies to children in a state-of-the-art therapy center. The Center welcomes inquiries from parents and professionals regarding private consultations, developmental screenings and academic support.
