I really think it gives people an opportunity to see that church can be fun. When you get to come in, support your favorite team and get to see other fans with their gear, it gives you something in common.

Fellowship Church is bringing 2011 NBA Finals excitement to all of its campuses while still focusing on God’s principles. Fellowship’s new series, “In It to Win It,” combines practical life application with easy to remember basketball analogies. The series was sparked by the fact that the two teams playing in the Finals are the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat, cities in which Fellowship has church locations.

Last week’s service featured nontraditional church programming such as a campus dunk contest inside the worship center, with sportscasters judging the contestants. Church attendees were even encouraged via Fellowship’s webpage and Facebook to wear their team’s sports gear to the service. In addition, some of the campuses hosted watching parties where people gathered with family and friends to enjoy the game, children’s activities and food.

The first installment of the series was covered by local Dallas TV station, KDAF. The article can be viewed at [http://www.the33tv.com/search/dispatcher.front?Query=Fellowship+church&target=adv_article.

Grapevine church member Jennifer Gould spoke to KDAF, saying, “I really think it gives people an opportunity to see that church can be fun. When you get to come in, support your favorite team and get to see other fans with their gear, it gives you something in common. So, it really gives you that ability to relate to other people easier.”
