Fed up with the surfeit of trashy reality shows and degrading TV offerings aimed at young people, a Ghanaian-born American writer and media entrepreneur, Dollie Darko, set out to create an alternative – a brand-new online network called MoYoTv (short for MODERN YOUTH TELEVISION).

Fed up with the surfeit of trashy reality shows and degrading TV offerings aimed at young people, a Ghanaian-born American writer and media entrepreneur, Dollie Darko, set out to create an alternative – a brand-new online network called MoYoTv (short for MODERN YOUTH TELEVISION). An ex-corporate executive and social entrepreneur living in Greenwich, Conn., Ms. Darko, 43, is the founder of several start-ups in addition to MoYoTv, including the Darko Media Group and the DDF Network. Darko is passionate about revolutionizing television content for young people.

“In an era of TV train wrecks like JERSEY SHORE and SKINS,” said Darko, “I envision an intelligent, fresh, hip, socially aware, highly entertaining TV network for the Internet. MoYoTv will make full use of social-networking features to stream quality, original, made-for-web TV programs. This is programming that will inform, engage, empower and inspire Generations X, Y, and Zed – the 16- to 30-year-old demographic – globally.” Darko emphasizes that MoYoTv's mission is to “produce quality original shows that will add value to young people's lives.”

Spending much of the past three years conducting research, surveys and focus groups, Darko and her team have created 28 original program scripts and treatments that explore the broad spectrum of issues confronting young people – not only in the US and Europe, but in emerging nations like China, India, Brazil and South Africa.

Darko’s gift for international salesmanship, her entrepreneurial skills and powerful sense of mission have helped her to raise more than US$1.3 million toward the multimedia project. She is currently looking to attract additional funding, while seeking to court key strategic partners. Darko is now in talks with several potential sponsors and investors, with a view to an official launch of MoYoTv in 2012, featuring a line-up of 10 to15 quality programs.

Since launching the http://www.moyotv.com website June1, Darko has received hundreds of rave reviews in the form of emails from around the globe – from young people and their parents alike. Many of those who have written refer to the MoYoTv project as one that is “awesome” and “way overdue.”
