Brandon Moore is a young man who has overcome a lot of hardship and grief to establish himself as a successful journalist. He’s awaiting the arrival of his grandmother, Lydia Stevens, whom he hasn’t seen for many years. Lydia raised Brandon after his mother, Lydia’s only child, passed away and his father, an angry drunk, beat Brandon severely enough to lose custody of the boy. Brandon loves Lydia with all his heart, but he’s apprehensive about the visit; Lydia is a devout Christian, and Brandon lost faith after his mother died and his father beat and neglected him. He fears that her visit is prompted by a wish to discuss his spiritual life, and he’s right. Lydia is there on a mission—to help Brandon rediscover his love of God.
Neither Lydia nor Brandon could guess the twists and turns that await them as the night goes on; after an angry exchange, Brandon heads back to his bedroom to take a breath and get some distance from his grandmother, and there he finds himself talking to God for the first time in many years. His demand that God show proof of his works results in a visit from Simeon, an angel who takes Brandon on a journey across time and space intended to help Brandon recover his lost faith. As the night goes on, Brandon is taken farther and farther back until he is faced with the Son of God himself; will this be enough to help Brandon believe again? Will Lydia’s prayers be answered at last?
