(PRWeb) – Atlanta retirement community Parc at Duluth recently teamed up with Newborns-in-Need to knit preemie baby blankets and caps for high risk premature babies in more than 17 neonatal hospitals throughout the Atlanta area.
The seniors group, better known as the Parc Purlers, began with resident Margaret Gaskins, who shared her knitting talent with others. It wasn’t long before the group grew to eleven women who meet once a week to knit. “I never realized this project would grow the way it has,” Ms. Gaskins humbly expressed.
The group recently presented the Sugar Hill Newborns-in-Need chapter president Marlene Baker with more than forty caps and blankets. “We never expected all of this. This is wonderful,” said Ms. Baker. The ladies of the knitting club celebrated their donation with a baby shower theme, complete with a cake decorated in pink and blue.
This isn’t the first time this active group of seniors has given back to the community. Last year they made lap blankets for residents of a local nursing home.
