Now I know that even if I don’t have a full support system through my college years, I will have supporters like you to help me through it.

The latest winner of Guide to Online Schools $2000 tri-annual community college scholarship is Chansopava Srey. Chansopava beat out over one hundred other applicants to receive this award.

SR Education Group has been giving out their community college scholarship through its flag ship site, Guide to Online Schools, since 2010. The scholarship is only awarded to students currently enrolled in a community college, which allows the organization to focus on students that are rarely sought out as financial aid recipients. Thus far, four students have been awarded the scholarship and winners have gone on to successful careers, as well as programs at four-year universities. Students applying for the scholarship must answer two open-ended, personal, and thought-provoking questions. The student whose response is the most persuasive, compelling, and well-written, and also has a substantial financial need, is awarded the scholarship.

Our latest winner, Chansopava, hails from Long Beach, California and currently attends Long Beach City College. She studies psychology and plans to transfer to California State University of Long Beach where she would like to continue her major and eventually get her PhD in psychiatry. Chansopava says she wants to become a psychiatrist so she can, “[become] a guidance for another person through their life problems, whether it is a mental, physical, or emotional problem.”

Chansopava is the first member of her family to attend college and has overcome much adversity to achieve what she has so far. Chansopava became a mother to two children at an early age and faced doubt from others about what she could accomplish because of her situation. Rather than succumbing to others’ expectations, Chansopava has worked hard, graduating a year early from high school and putting herself through her first year at Long Beach City College. She says her primary motivations are her young children and the other young members of her family who she can set a good example for by succeeding in college. She plans on finishing her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and applying for medical school so she can pursue her dream of becoming a psychiatrist. About the award, Chansopava says, “This scholarship gives me more hope and motivation towards college and graduating. Now I know that even if I don’t have a full support system through my college years, I will have supporters like you to help me through it.” Chansopava will be able to use the scholarship award towards her tuition, books, and any other necessary school supplies.

Guide to Online Schools and SR Education Group would like to congratulate Chansopava on her win and wish her the best of luck on her future endeavors.
