This dedicated national practice adds healthcare to the firm's range of specialized services.

Blackman Kallick, the Chicago-based audit, tax and consulting firm, is expanding its healthcare services into a dedicated national practice area focusing exclusively on the specialized needs of healthcare companies. Paul Smith, a public accounting professional with over a decade of focused healthcare expertise, has joined the firm to lead the practice.

Mr. Smith’s healthcare experience extends the firm’s range of targeted and specialized services designed to help clients thrive in the rapidly changing health care industry.

Managing Partner Steve Schneider said, “Blackman Kallick works with some of the most innovative and successful organizations within the healthcare industry. By establishing a national healthcare practice, along with the addition of a professional of Paul’s caliber, we are reinforcing our commitment to this industry.”

Having worked closely with a wide range of organizations on both sides of the provider/payer transaction, Mr. Smith is well-positioned to help clients increase efficiencies and profitability. He brings to Blackman Kallick a thorough understanding of healthcare processes, particularly in the reimbursement cycle, and specializes in financial statement audits, fraud risk assessment, internal audits, benchmarking, and other financial consultation.

“Blackman Kallick presents wonderful opportunities,” said Mr. Smith, “because it’s a mid-sized firm with an array of capabilities. We have a breadth of experience and expertise to draw on for our healthcare clients, ranging from tax and insurance nuances to addressing major valuation and M&A concerns. At Blackman Kallick, the senior-level leadership works hand in hand with clients to provide ideas for growth, efficiencies and processes so they can better serve their own customers – which is precisely where my passion lies.”

The healthcare organizations Blackman currently serves include home care agencies, medical centers, federally qualified health centers (FQHCs), senior living centers, medical and dental groups, associations, ancillary providers, medical equipment manufacturers, insurance companies, and technology providers. Smith brings an additional depth of experience with hospitals, blood centers, and hospices, among others.
