Affiliated Auctions, North Florida & South Georgia's Premier auction house, has announced that “THE GREAT ESCAPE” Archive of WWII POW Ed Tovrea will hit the auction block on Saturday, July 9th, 2011.

This is a comprehensive archive from the Infamous Luft Stalag III POW camp which was the basis for the book "The Great Escape" by Paul Brickhill and the 1963 movie "The Great Escape" starring Steve McQueen and James Garner and Charles Bronson who played the parts of Ed and several other diggers. On his 6th mission, Lt. Ed Tovrea of Phoenix, AZ was flying a "star" marked Spitfire and was shot down during the Dieppe raid over France. He was plucked from the English Channel and held as a POW at Stalag III for nearly 3 years. Ed was a main digger of the tunnel through which 76 prisoners escaped. The collection consists of numerous items including a hand drawn Christmas card, Ed's original "Fake Passport Photo", extremely rare in camp photos used by the Movie studio to reproduce the set along with the camera that was smuggled into the camp to take the pictures. Also up for auction will be numerous letters to Ed from prisoners and characters of the movie.

The Military & Firearm Catalog Auction will take place on Saturday, July 9th, and will feature “The Great Escape” auction as well as many other items such as swords, daggers, bayonets, knives, uniforms, headgear, badges and awards, presentation items, armor, and firearms.
