General Finishes is excited to announce their new Ready To Match (RTM) Stain System, a water based wood finishes color matching system designed to make stain color matching simple, efficient, and cost-effective.

Benefits of General Finishes Water Based Color Matching System
Using the new RTM system results in reduced labor costs, because creating custom colors or matching a wood stain color takes minutes instead of hours. The new system also offers fast and accurate stain matching as well as flexibility and consistency. Colors can by mixed by weight or volume which allows consistent colors time after time. The RTM System can be used under any water based or solvent based sealers or top coats, and it can be sprayed or hand applied. Plus, General Finishes water based RTM system is safe for the environment - water based stains are low-VOC, non-flammable and easy to clean up.

System Components
This water based finish color matching system consists of 10 standard wood stain bases and a clear that can be intermixed to create an endless amount of rich, deep wood stain colors; 150 custom colors on 4X5 color chips; mixing supplies, and an attractive wooden box for a professional looking stain display. The RTM System can be used with the Fillon Minimax 150 mixing machine or with mixing lids. The 10 standard RTM colors are available in the following sizes: Quart, Gallon, and 5 Gallon Pails. This system also includes a formula handbook and excel formula calculator to make color matching simple.

How General Finishes New System Differs from the Competition
Instead of 2 sets of chips, General Finishes color chips are made with cabinet grade plywood with Maple on one side and Oak on the other.

Each chip is labeled with the formula right on the chip for quick, easy reference.
Quart sizes are available, so that the woodworker doesn’t have to keep a gallon of color that might rarely be used.

The Excel calculator makes replicating a formula very simple – enter the formula found in the book or on the reference chip, and the Excel calculator will give how many ounces of each color is needed for different volumes of custom color. A custom size or volume can also be entered. Rob Szwedo at General Finishes asserts, “Anyone who might get intimidated by mixing colors will find it super easy to understand.”

Plus, in addition to the 10 RTM colors, the system also comes with a set of 13 dye stains. According to Rob Szwedo, “Having the dye stains is important, because there will be times when you need a little extra color. The Dye Stains work great for this.” For an extra tip, Rob added, “Also when trying to match colors to older finishes or just to increase the depth of color, you can apply the Amber, Yellow and Orange dyes before applying a stain. It really makes a big difference.”
