Jostens today announced the winners of the 2011 Jostens Renaissance® Student Awards. The nationally acclaimed annual award recognizes students who strive for academic excellence during their high school career. Jostens Renaissance empowers students and schools to energize the educational atmosphere, and to create and seize new opportunities for success through creativity and innovation. This award encourages students to improve academic performance and helps raise the profile of academics school-wide.
2011 saw entries submitted from high schools around the country that implement Jostens Renaissance, from which only one award winner and four runner-ups were selected. Students must have had an increase in their cumulative GPA from the end of freshman first semester to the end of first semester senior year, which reflects the Jostens Renaissance philosophy that recognizing all students for academic achievements, regardless of class rank, can help increase school pride and graduation rates. Students also submitted a 500-1,000 word qualifying essay describing how the Jostens Renaissance program has impacted the student’s life.
This year’s Jostens Renaissance Student Award Winner and runner-ups are:

- Runner-up: Melanie Eskin, Bergenfield High School, Bergenfield, NJ
- Runner-up: Aaron Dash-Robinson, Delsea Regional High School, Franklinville, NJ
- Runner-up: Holly Eschenburg, Port Huron Northern High School, Port Huron, NJ
- Runner-up: James Huynh, Bloomington High School, Bloomington, CA

Jostens Renaissance Award Winner Serina Ahm will receive a $2,500 scholarship, renewable for three additional years bringing the total scholarship value to $10,000, and an Apple iBook. Each runner-up has the option of choosing an Apple iBook, an iPad or a one-time, non-renewable $1,000 award.
The Jostens Renaissance program was founded by Jostens in 1988, and its purpose is to inspire the acceptance and excitement for academics similar to athletics. Through Jostens Renaissance, Jostens aims to increase student performance and teacher enthusiasm and to raise the level of community participation in schools.
