New York, NY (PRWEB) June 22, 2011
Many physicians are unaware the deadline to fulfill the requirements for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program is June 30th, 2011.
With only 9 days remaining, physicians need to submit at least 10 ePrescriptions (excluding hardship exemptions) to avoid the 2012 Medicare penalty. CMS will analyze claim submissions to ascertain whether the minimum ePrescriptions were sent by providers from January 1st to June 30th, 2011.
The penalties start at 1% for 2012 and increase each year to 1.5% and 2% by 2014. These fees apply to all of Part B-covered professional services under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS).
MedAZ’s Western Regional Director James Slazas said, "as well as sending the electronic prescriptions, the health care providers must also submit 10 Medicare bills with the ePrescription code G8553 to be compliant."
“In the medical community, we’re in the midst of so many technological changes, that it’s difficult for physicians to keep up. I feel it’s imperative to support them by helping manage their business. That’s why MedAZ is providing a free software solution - as well as having created a specific team focused on expediting the ePrescription part of our fully integrated EHR solution, so physicians still have time to avoid the penalties,” Mr. Slazas said.
MedAZ is available to answer any questions physicians may have regarding the ePrescription Medicare regulations.
