SubHub has launched a new service that makes it easy and affordable for individuals and businesses to launch a paid membership website.
SubHub’s new platform enables non-technical Internet users to design, build, launch and manage their own membership websites. Unlike older membership website software packages, SubHub’s solution leverages powerful open-source technology and seamlessly integrates all needed features.
“When we looked at existing membership website solutions, we asked ‘What’s wrong with this picture?’” said Miles Galliford, SubHub co-founder. “What was wrong was that they were built using proprietary software and were therefore not expandable and future-proof. Or the membership component was a separate plug-in that required technical skill to get working and often broke anyway. Or customers had to go find hosting for themselves. We told ourselves there had to be a better way.
“Our new platform takes care of this,” Galliford said. “Under the hood is Drupal 7, the most advanced content management solution which now powers two percent of the world’s websites. On top of this is a very easy user interface that anyone can understand. Fully integrated are the membership elements and other features that the customer can fully control. And finally it’s all hosted and managed so it’s ready to roll as soon as our customer is.
“Best of all,” Galliford said, “we’ve rolled out a new a la carte pricing model which gives our customer full control over how much they pay -- no more forcing people into pricing tiers where they pay for things they don’t need.”
Membership websites, which charge for access to specialist content, are among the fastest growing areas of online business. All content that can be digitised is moving online and many content owners seek a way to generate revenues from their intellectual property.
The SubHub membership service automates the process of taking money, issuing a password and managing subscription renewals. The website owner can create different payment plans, set up membership levels and bill in multiple currencies.
