National hotel group, Best Western has created an innovative summer marketing campaign taking the summer holiday ritual of buying the latest blockbuster and developing a series of short stories in a mini book.

‘Where Stories Happen’ is the creative concept conceived by The Sharp Agency which showcases a collection of short summer stories written by contemporary British authors, including Giles Foden who penned The Last King Of Scotland. The book will be mailed out to 40,000 Best Western Rewards and leisure customers and is also available online and via email.

There are 270 independently owned hotels within the Best Western group, all of which have their own tales and histories, which the stories have been loosely linked to as well as summer holidays.

Mandi Taylor, partner from The Sharp Agency commented: "Customers told us that they are looking for inspiration and ideas for where to go and what to do this summer. We created the campaign ‘Where Stories Happen’ to support this and to allow us to communicate the unique personality and experience of Best Western across all media. Our four authors have written fantastic, original short Summer Stories set in hotels to dramatise this idea to the maximum.”

In addition, there will be a social media campaign asking Twitter followers to draft the next line of a story to create a new short story with each line less than 140 characters. A winning line a day will be chosen, which will be posted on the blog daily for the next lines to be drafted the following day.

The social media competitions will run until Monday 4 July, follow @BestWesternGB and #BWBestSeller. The complete short story will be published in Do Not Disturb – the Best Western in-hotel magazine and one lucky winner will be picked at random to win a two night dinner bed and breakfast break in a Best Western hotel. Potential short story writers can also enter via the Best Western blog.

In addition, Best Western is offering 15% off two night stays or 20% off three nights stays this summer.

Priding itself on personality and individuality, Best Western is the UK’s largest group of independently owned hotels. It has over 270 members across the length and breadth of the UK offering stylish city breaks, country retreats, spa weekends, golfing breaks and stately homes.
