Contrast's new patent protects critical optical splitting technology for multi-sensor cameras such as their AMP HDR camera system.

Contrast Optical Design & Engineering, Inc. announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued a patent assigned to Contrast for technology related to splitting of image-forming beams, an important component of Contrast's suite of in-house developed optical technologies. The issuance of this patent represents an important milestone in the high-tech firm's plans to expand into various digital imaging markets, such as High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDRI) video camera development.

"This patent protects part of the technologies we developed and use at Contrast," said Chief Technical Officer Mike Tocci. "We have several development projects on-going here, and this patent represents a key step in protecting our company's IP."

The announcement of this patent issue follows quickly after the company's recent introduction of their AMP camera system.

The USPTO issued U.S. Patent No. 7,961,398 to Contrast Optical on June 14, 2011. This is the first of Contrast's applications to be issued by the USPTO. Contrast also has two active U.S. patent applications, nine U.S. provisional applications and three applications filed in other countries that are pending. Today's announced patent is related to U.S. Patent Application No. 12/398,819 filed March 5, 2009. This patent application also claimed priority to and benefits of U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61/034,031, filed March 5, 2008.
