The Original US Congress Handbook, in partnership with The Hill, is pleased to announce an all-new contest for 6th, 7th and 8th graders enrolled in schools located in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia.
In this year’s contest, students will compete to design the cover of the upcoming Kids Cover Charitable Edition of the 112th Congress, 2nd Session US Congress Handbook. This special edition will feature the student designed artwork illustrating “What Congress means to me.” Fifteen percent of all the handbook’s proceeds will be donated to local nonprofit, The Hoops for Youth Foundation. The foundation provides funding to local schools and programs aimed at helping at-risk kids in our communities. This year the foundation will be supporting the following organizations with funding: The Washington Jesuit Academy, St. Anthony’s, Cornerstone School of Washington, DC, and Horton’s Kids
About the Kids Cover Contest: Knowledge about the government and the legislative process is vital for kids growing up in today’s society. That’s why we’re asking kids to show us what Congress means to them when they design a special cover for the upcoming edition of the US Congress Handbook. The top prize winner will receive an Amazon Kindle Reader, $100 in Kindle credits and 100 copies of the US Congress Handbook donated for use in their school. The top winner will also have their cover printed on the 2012 Special Kids Cover Edition, sold nationwide. Three Honorable Mentions will also be awarded an Amazon Kindle, $50 in Kindle credits and receive 20 US Congress Handbooks for each of their schools. Winners will be announced on August 30, 2011. Awards will be presented at the Hoops for Youth Congressional Basketball Game on September 12, 2011 in Washington, DC, where the winning students will have the opportunity to meet members of Congress competing in the basketball game.
