Handcrafted furniture company seeks to correct common misconceptions about wood veneers.

There is a perception that solid wood furniture is always superior quality, but that simply isn’t the case.

Furniture by Dovetail, a Massachusetts company that creates handcrafted furniture for residences, offices, schools and colleges, has released a whitepaper entitled “The Truth about Veneers and Solid Wood in Fine Furniture”. The whitepaper is available for free download on their website.

According to Jonas Geiger, President, the company was inspired to publish the whitepaper to address common misconceptions surrounding both solid woods and wood veneers in fine furniture. “There is a perception that solid wood furniture is always superior quality, but that simply isn’t the case,” explains Geiger.

“Exotic woods are often only available in high quality wood veneers and wood veneers are used extensively in gorgeous pieces with curves and bowed fronts. Some of the most spectacular furniture, both today and from centuries ago, is made from wood veneers.”

The eight-page whitepaper describes wood veneers and their historical use in furniture, compares the strengths and weaknesses of solid wood and veneers, outlines the proper usage of both materials in fine furniture, and provides tips for identifying quality furniture construction and materials.

The whitepaper is part of Furniture by Dovetail’s new program to take the mystery out of buying fine, handcrafted furniture by educating the consumer about quality design and materials. Additional information is available at http://www.furniturebydovetail.com.
