Smashburger Sizzles into St. Louis with First Area Restaurant July 20

Smashburger, the nation's fastest-growing 'better burger' fast casual restaurant concept, will open its first St. Louis-area location on July 20. Twelve additional restaurants are planned for the market over the next four years.

Smashburger, the nation’s fastest-growing “better burger” fast-casual restaurant concept will open its first St. Louis location on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. The restaurant will open at 1981 Zumbehl Rd. in St. Charles, Mo., and bring 100-percent Angus burgers, an array of signature sides and delicious handspun Häagen-Dazs shakes to local residents. The St. Charles location is the first of 12 St. Louis Smashburgers slated to open over the next four years. A second restaurant will open in Chesterfield, Mo., this fall.

Named for the cooking method used to create the perfect burger, Smashburgers start as a loosely hand-formed ball of 100-percent—fresh, not frozen, Certified Angus Beef that is then smashed on a flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor. To further the “better burger” experience, Smashburgers are served on a toasted artisan bun and topped with a selection of real cheeses, the freshest produce, and top-quality condiments.

St. Louis Smashburgers will feature a regional menu created with regional flavors and tastes in mind. The St. Louis menu includes:

  •     The St. Louis Smashburger, with provel cheese, garlic grilled mushrooms, grilled onions and sweet bell peppers on a pretzel bun;
  •     The St. Louis Smashdog, a 100-percent Angus beef hot dog with provel cheese, yellow mustard, garlic grilled mushrooms, grilled onions and sweet bell peppers, and
  •     The St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake Shake made with Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

Smashburger is known for its savory burgers, but the restaurant also serves up delicious chicken sandwiches, sliced and grilled hotdogs, and delicious salads, with sides like veggie frites and rosemary and garlic–seasoned Smashfries. Burger lovers can pair their meals with beer, wine, Häagen-Dazs shakes, and root-beer floats.

The St. Louis Smashburger locations will be owned and operated by local franchisee STL Smash, LLC. Its president, Dave Schweitzer, is a veteran of the restaurant industry in the region. “From the first moment I tasted a Smashburger, I just knew I had to share it,” says Dave Schweitzer. “I’m thrilled to be introducing the brand to St. Louis.”
