Gavin Hutcheson successfully invents world’s first set top box for Dixons Retail Group

Entrepreneur Gavin Hutcheson successfully created the World’s first Internet set top box to run on Microsoft Windows. Hutcheson successfully designed the product in Malaysia in conjunction with Scottish Enterprise, and the set top box successfully passed QC for the Dixons retail Group.The project was overseen by Peter Lyons ( Dixons Retail group), Scottish Enterprise and a Private Equity firm.

Gavin Hutcheson was the second youngest person to gain Institute of Marketing certification back in 1990 aged just 22. Hutcheson’s career has seen two companies gone from private status to PLC, with total company sales of over 200 million pounds with Hutcheson at the sales helm. Hutcheson is also renowned as one of the most successful implementers of reverse bound IVR and SMS marketing.

Hutcheson’s talent was seen in full force when a total of 576,000 GBP profit was generated from his sms/ivr campaign in just 72 hours, a record which still stands today within the IVR Industry.
