Easier and more intuitive access to online storage via a web browser

Strato has announced a new File Manager for HiDrive, the secure cloud storage system, specifically designed for when users don’t have access to their personal computing devices. The File Manager provides an intuitive and easy-to-use interface when HiDrive is accessed from any web browser, for instance in an Internet café, on a friend’s PC, or any ‘foreign’ device. Back on their PC, users can mount HiDrive as a network drive and can also view and manipulate their data from a mobile phone, tablet PC or laptop, supported by many existing network protocols. Available for individuals and businesses, HiDrive offers 100 to 5,000GB of storage starting at £9 per month.* For more information go to

The File Manager includes a new site map that displays relevant information such as used and available storage space, an overview of share links, mail upload and backup versions. A new menu has also been added to help users navigate their HiDrive. Similar to other standard file managers, the File Manager is made up of two columns. The left column displays an index of what is stored and when the user selects a file from a folder, it automatically appears in the right column. In addition, with the new navigational menu, users can:

  •     ‘Manage’ - generate folders, upload their data, rename folders and delete folders
  •     ‘Add’ - upload data from their hard disc or other storage mediums, as well as store data from URL directly
  •     ‘View’ - display their data as lists or symbols
  •     ‘Share’ - set up sharing features, generate password-protected third party upload and download of selected files and define number of downloads and time limits
  •     ‘Download’ individual or several files as an archive

Damian Schmidt, CEO of Strato commented, “Users of cloud storage want to open and manipulate their files from anywhere, like they do with their PC at home. The new File Manager in HiDrive makes it possible to access data conveniently no matter what device is used and from any location. The design and functionality is adapted to other standard file managers, so it is highly intuitive and easy to use.”

All HiDrive data is stored in two high-performance data centres in Germany which are certified to ISO 27001, a standard normally used by banks, insurance companies and health insurance providers. Germany has some of the strictest data privacy laws in the world. Moreover Strato’s data centres are run with renewable energy, having operated carbon-neutral since 2008.
