With virtually everyone in America online, employers need to understand what is available for their employees at the click of a mouse, and then take the necessary steps to insure positive employee relations, eliminating the need for unionization.

Employee communications company Projections, Inc. has today released a whitepaper titled, “Organized Labor’s Secret Online Weapons: And 5 Things You Can Do Now to Defend Your Company” with all-new updated information. The updated whitepaper details organized labor’s latest online organizing strategies, and the preventive actions employers need to take now in order to remain union free in the face of the current labor-friendly administrations and pending changes to NLRB rules.

Last week, the National Labor Relations Board published an official Notice of Proposed Rulemaking which will drastically shorten the timeframe from when a union files a petition for election to the date employees vote. In a June 22nd article, the Wall Street Journal called this a move “designed to make (union) organizing easier.”

“For years now, unions have used the Internet to find workers, organize workers, and paint their union in a very positive light - while attacking corporate targets,” said Walter Orechwa, CEO of Projections, Inc. “With virtually everyone in America online, employers need to understand what is available for their employees at the click of a mouse, and then take the necessary steps to insure positive employee relations, eliminating the need for unionization.”

Projections’ whitepaper looks at key data detailing just how popular and widespread the use of social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have become, and how unions have been successful in utilizing these resources, including:

  •     How unions use damaging online corporate campaigns
  •     How social media is helping unions appeal to younger workers
  •     How even an anonymous blog can be trouble for employers
  •     How unions are helping one another learn to organize workers online

Employers will also learn five practical steps to stay ahead of labor’s online tactics and the resources currently available for communication assistance. The whitepaper also provides an extensive list of links, sources, and data on unions and their use of web-based communication.
