Risk management and compliance are No. 1 drivers for EDM, followed by fueling business growth

Open Link Financial, Inc. (OpenLink), a leading provider of cross-asset trading, risk management and operations processing software, today released findings from a recent webinar hosted by Maven Wave Partners in conjunction with Wall Street & Technology which surveyed capital markets professionals on enterprise data management (EDM) strategies.

The survey revealed the main drivers for EDM strategies for these capital markets professionals were:

  • Risk management and compliance: 38%
  • Fueling business growth: 29%
  • Regulatory pressure: 10%
  • Demand from senior management: 8%
  • Other: 15%

Also revealed during the event were the key attributes firms were seeking in their EDM solutions, including (in order of preference): data quality/integrity, standardization/simplification of process flow, data governance, as well as implementation of data warehouse and business intelligence.

Gary Koche, Managing Director, Capital Markets North America at OpenLink, noted, “The data shows that the industry is just now starting to reap the full impact that EDM can have – and should have – on a firm’s bottom line. Converting technology spend into business opportunity is critical for our clients to effectively quantify and justify an initiative’s ROI. Leveraging enterprise data management offers a great opportunity to achieve untapped operational improvements.”

Eric Gulbrandsen, Managing Director, Financial Services Practice at Maven Wave, added, “We’re also seeing that companies are using EDM to feed their appetite for real-time data views of prices, P&L, cash flows and risk. Many are using it to bring customer and market data closer to the trading operation to help improve profitability.”
