A new Skagway restaurant and attraction are opening in this historic gold rush town in time for the start of the 2011 Alaskan cruise season.

According to owner Kristine Clayton, “the Gold Digger Mine and Dine Restaurant will blend the adventure of the Yukon Gold Rush with unique gourmet cuisine, all in a fun family setting in historic downtown Skagway, just a short walk from the cruise ship docks.”

On the restaurant side, the Gold Digger will be a gourmet sausage grill, offering beer boiled sausage sandwiches along with specialty side dishes, micro-brewed beer, wine from Alaskan vineyards, and specialty sodas.

The restaurant menu will feature wild game sausages, a selection of gourmet sauces, and traditional favorites. All menu items will be prepared fresh daily.

Adjacent to the restaurant, a gold panning attraction will allow visitors to try their luck at prospecting. Rather than incorporating the pyrite or gold flakes used at other similar panning attractions, the Gold Digger will use real gold nuggets from an actual Alaskan gold mine.

Previously, visitors seeking an authentic Skagway gold panning experience had to travel some 45 minutes out of town. With the opening of the Gold Digger Mine and Dine, tourists will be able to pan for gold in the heart of downtown Skagway.

The Gold Digger venue will also accommodate small private functions and live musical performances, and it will be available for special events, including parties and business meetings.

The Gold Digger Mine and Dine Restaurant, debuting in the heart of historic downtown Skagway, will be open throughout the Alaskan cruise season. For more information or to reserve the venue for your group, contact Kristine Clayton at (907) 983-3309.
