Perfect Third, Inc., a forerunner in the quantified self data revolution, today announced the launch of WakeMate® V2, the next generation of the WakeMate smartphone accessory now available at the WakeMate online store.
WakeMate V2 offers updated features to the WakeMate smartphone accessory and includes improvements to the mobile app, key enhancements to the WakeMate website and new Web-based user analytics. All of the WakeMate V2 upgrades will be available for both new and current WakeMate users.
Key features in the WakeMate V2 include:
- In app sleep analytics
- Improved Bluetooth reliability (connecting and pairing)
- Offline data storage (internet connection no longer required)
- Improved tagging UI (syncs with website)
- Battery life and battery life calculation optimization
- Option for larger wristband
- Data Analysis on web – shows optimal bedtime, wake time and length of sleep
Here’s how WakeMate V2 works:
The WakeMate wristband records subtle body movements using actigraphy – a clinically proven method to track an individual’s sleep.
WakeMate analyzes a user’s movements and communicates wirelessly with the person’s mobile phone to calculate the ideal wake point closest to the selected alarm time to ensure that the user rouses easily, feeling naturally alert and refreshed. WakeMate then automatically uploads the user’s sleep data to its Web-based analytics platform (Wakelytics™), which provides the user with a nightly sleep report and insight about how to best improve their sleep.

“We understand that any new lifestyle technology needs to be simple to use; it needs to fit seamlessly into your life before you can really begin to appreciate the benefits. With that in mind, we designed WakeMate’s user experience to be as close to fully automated as possible: slip on the wristband and press one button in the mobile app,” says Greg Nemeth, Co-Founder and President at Perfect Third, Inc. “Not only will you wake at the optimal time, but your data is automatically collected, uploaded, and analyzed on our Wakelytics platform each morning. Our goal was to minimize the effort required from the user and maximize the benefits they reap.”
WakeMate V2 works with BlackBerry, Android, iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and retails for $59.99 and is available at the WakeWate online store at https://secure.wakemate.com/store/.
Recent findings from the Global Mobile Health Market Report 2010-20 support that the long-expected mobile revolution in healthcare is set to happen and more 500 million people will use mobile health apps by 2015.
“We’ll soon see a wide range of sensor-based accessories for better living: sleep monitors, blood sugar testing for those with diabetes, personalized calorie trackers, and more. WakeMate is spearheading that movement today by opening an API around our hardware,” says Arun Gupta, Co-Founder and CEO of WakeMate.
The API is in private beta, but if you are a developer interested in utilizing the mobile bluetooth sensor, please contact greg(at)wakemate(dot)com.

WakeMate® is the first smartphone accessory that helps you improve your sleep. The WakeMate wristband records body movement while you rest, which it uses to determine the ideal wake point closest to your pre-set alarm time. This ensures that you rouse easily, feeling naturally alert and refreshed. Next, your recorded sleep data is automatically uploaded to WakeMate's analytics platform (Wakelytics™) where it is evaluated, so you can understand how to optimize the quality and efficiency of your sleep. WakeMate shows you how to sleep less and feel better.
