Lollapalooza, one of world’s biggest international music festivals, today opened public voting on apps resulting from the HackLolla challenge, an open data application challenge that invited developers to build web and mobile apps using Lollapalooza’s recently opened API. Fans and developers can explore and vote for the best applications at: http://hacklolla.com/submissions.
During the challenge submission period, developers created 19 diverse mobile and web applications that help fans to get the most from their Lollapalooza experience before, during and after the Festival.
“The HackLolla challenge has created some fantastic apps that will build on and enhance the festival’s music and digital experiences,” said Michael Feferman, Digital Director at C3 Presents, the producers of Lollapalooza. “We encourage developers to further explore the data Lollapalooza has opened up and continue to build new and innovative fest apps.”
Submitted apps range from schedule recommenders, to apps that help fans discover and enjoy new bands, to apps that help share festival images and video, to social games that predict the next song to be played on a stage and more.
Two winning apps, a Grand Prize winner and People’s Choice winner, will be publicized to the entire Lollapalooza fan base and attendees, and the winning developers will each receive 2 VIP passes to Lollapalooza 2011. The Grand Prize winner will be judged on quality, implementation and potential impact on the Lollapalooza fan experience, and will also receive airfare and hotel accommodations for the festival.
Fans can cast their vote for the People’s Choice winner on the Hacklolla website that’s powered by ChallengePost, a public platform that enables social problem solving, through 5:00 pm EST on July 10, 2011 and winners for both awards will be announced July 12, 2011.

Lollapalooza announced HackLolla on May 6, 2011 at Music Hack Day and opened up real-time data about artists, schedules, events and more for the first time through its API, as provided by DoStuff Media and in conjunction with featured API Partners Soundcloud, Echo Nest, and Songkick.
In 2011, at its home in the Windy City, Lollapalooza will bring alumni and worthy newcomers together for three rollicking days – August 5-7 -- to celebrate the festival’s 20th Anniversary edition. This year it is led by Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse, My Morning Jacket, deadmau5, A Perfect Circle, Cee Lo Green, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley & Nas, The Cars and Ween.
