Seven Appoints Digital Innovator Dave Castell as Head of Digital

Seven, the award-winning strategic content agency, has appointed Dave Castell as Head of Digital. A leading expert in digital content and online entertainment, Castell will be responsible for strategy across all of Seven’s digital projects for existing clients, including websites, email, applications, video and social media.

Former Managing Director and founder of Big Briefs, Dave will bolster the agency’s online credentials, evolving cross-platform strategies for all clients and growing Seven’s digital business.

Working with the business development and client teams, Dave will create, develop and deliver multi-platform for clients, alongside Content Director Nic MCarthy, Strategy Director Kevin Sutherland and Client Director Jessica Gibson.

Having started his career as a web designer, songwriter and music journalist, Dave progressed to Senior Web Designer at Ministry of Sound before starting his own web solutions company Glitterarty in 1997.

Dave was Head of Music and Mobile at Tiscali from 2002 to 2007, launching Tiscali Showcase (2004), Tiscali Sessions (2006), Tiscali UK Radio (2006) and the new Tiscali Music Downloads store (2006). As a result, Dave led Tiscali’s flagship sponsorship, live Webcast and Sessions from the Carling Weekends: Reading and Leeds as well as the successful multiplatform 02 Wireless activity, which crossed over to Channel 4 TV.

Dave later joined Ingenious Media-owned Tough Cookie in May 2007, as Director of New Media for Whizz Kid Entertainment, and Creative and Technical Director for Tough Cookie, adding his own unique mix of technical and creative flair, and working closely with major global internet broadcasters (Bebo, Myspace, YouTube) to develop and monetise specialised web-only digital video and web build projects. Dave completed Tough Cookie’s pioneering 360-degree approach across productions that included the BBC Electric Proms, BBC Hub Sessions and the JD Sets for Channel 4. As part of Whizz Kid Entertainment, Dave worked across digital for the Baftas (BBC1), the Nokia Green Room (C4), PlayStation Day (PS3), and MSN Xclusives (MSN).

Most recently, Dave was Managing Director of Big Briefs, a digital entertainment solutions company specialising in providing consultancy, design, build and content production services to the broadcast, media and web industries, counting the likes of PlayStation and the UK Government among its clients. The company has been responsible for some of the web’s most progressive online programming in the UK.

Dave consulted on the record-breaking U2/YouTube global webcast from LA for Google/U2/Universal (a record-breaking concert generating 10 million streams); Nokia Treasure Tag for Whizz Kid Ent Digital consultancy, content for AOL Music and TalkTalk in the UK; digital build and strategy projects for Church of England, Mitsubishi, the Diageo Group, and high-profile consumer-facing digital projects with Skype and Samsung.

Dave takes over from former Head of Digital Mike Burgess, now Digital Development Director at Seven. Mike continues to lead the content agency’s push into digital and mobile, positioning Seven as a leader in the digital publishing field.
