"We are so grateful to the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin for sponsoring this event and for such a nice showing of volunteers so very early on a Saturday morning, said Kim Page, co-owner of Bull City Running Co. and organizer for Running of the Bulls."
Durham, North Carolina (PRWEB) June 30, 2011
The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin was a community sponsor for the third annual Running of the Bulls in downtown Durham, NC on Saturday, June 18. Several employees volunteered to man the water and Gatorade stations, while 14 employees and their family members braved the 8K course in 90+ degree heat.
The event was organized by Bull City Running Co. and proceeds benefit DurhamCares.
Litigation Attorney Gabe Talton, who helped organize the law firm’s volunteer efforts, said, “The Running of the Bulls 8K was an opportunity to support DurhamCares while participating in a fun athletic competition. DurhamCares is an umbrella group which gives money to Durham charities with track records of success. Supporting the event also fits in with the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin’s values of working hard and playing hard.”
The event was the brainchild of Jason and Kim Page, who opened Bull City Running Co. The Pages envisioned creating a premier running event to showcase the wonders of the Bull City, as well as promote their beloved past-time of running.
“We really saw a need for a premier road race. All great American cities have a road race that becomes a local and regional draw to bring people to the city,” Kim Page said. “We saw an opportunity to create such an event in Durham, particularly to show off amazing revitalizations efforts going on in the city.”
The scenic route wound it way through downtown Durham, NC and the American Tobacco Campus, as well as the Trinity Park and Old North Durham neighborhoods. About 730 people finished the race.
“For an organization of our size to create this event, volunteers are critical,” Kim Page said. “They not only provided runner safety and directions, but added to the overall enjoyment for the runners out there. It is no exaggeration to say that an event like this would not possible without a group of committed volunteers. We are so grateful to the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin for sponsoring this event and for such a nice showing of volunteers so very early on a Saturday morning.”
Proceeds from the race have not been determined, but last year’s race netted more than $3,000 for DurhamCares.
