Empowered adults change the world
(PRWEB) July 02, 2011
LivingMy1Life.com is a resource where people make lists of things that they want to do in their lives, and get connected to other people, businesses and organizations that can help them. “It’s not a ‘bucket list’.”, says founder Kevin Keene. “LivingMy1Life is about living more fully and finding more joy in your life, while you are working; in relationships; raising children and engaged in living from day to day. Bucket lists are about doing things before you die -abandoning work, relationships, children and responsibilities - in a last ditch effort to have a handful of peak experiences.”
“Our watchwords are Dream, Live and Share.” says founder Cathy Jackson, “So we created an online community to empower people to do just that.”
Making a life list of 101 things to do is a transformative and empowering experience. Anyone can make a short list, but making a long list helps a person examine not only places they want to see and things that they’d like to do, but also career, relationships, defining a place within a community, spirituality, and things they’d like to learn or teach. Looking at all areas of one’s life affords better opportunities to direct growth and change. “Our goal is to help you convert your list of things you want to do into a list of things that you’ve done.” says Jackson. “In the last year, I accomplished 22 things that were on my list,” says Keene “while I was working full time, enrolled in school, raising a child, and building LivingMy1Life.”
There are other resources on the web for making life lists, bucket lists or lists of things to do, but LivingMy1Life takes the concept to a higher level. Community is the key word. LivingMy1Life is about connection. Everyone on the site is a member. Members are matched with each other based on their life lists, hobbies, interests and areas of expertise. Organizations post events and opportunities to participate and advance your favorite cause.
Businesses can give discounts to the members and are matched with people who need their services. “We think this is the next evolution in advertising. Instead of putting an ad in front of a person, we make it possible for people and businesses to connect directly, based on that person’s hobbies and interests or something that they want to do.” says Keene. People form groups to help each other accomplish goals and engage in activities together. Members help each other with ideas and suggestions, or barter skills and services. Everyone is encouraged to share their stories by posting photos, videos and written materials.
There is a type of membership for everyone. Join for free and take advantage of most of what the community offers. A nominal yearly subscription adds a matching service and discounts that are offered by businesses. Businesses or organizations can subscribe for a small annual fee, typically less than the cost of one traditional print ad. Businesses may also join the community as affiliate members. Children are encouraged to join as well. Kevin Keene says “We believe that self-empowerment should begin at as early an age as possible. Empowered children become empowered adults, and empowered adults change the world. We want to make it as easy as possible for everyone to participate.”
