A new exhibit “A Tribute to 20th Century Modern Art” has just opened at J D Smith Fine Art. This exhibit honors the work of 20th Century Modernist masters, and includes affordable and highly-collectable etchings and lithographs by leaders of the period.
While 20th Century Modern Art grew out of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, its explosive energy allowed artists more freedom than its predecessors ever offered. Modern art includes a wide-ranging group of movements and styles, such as Fauvism, Cubism, Minimalism, Abstract Expressionism, and Surrealism. A list of the most renown 20th Century Modern art masters always includes the names of Picasso, Braque, Matisse, Chagall, Miro, and Dali.
Many of the leading Modernists influenced each other and were friendly competitors to each other. For example, Picasso and Matisse had a friendly rivalry for most of their careers. And Braque and Picasso pioneered Cubism. Modern artists worked in a variety of media, including oil paint, sculpture, collage, ink and pencil, and prints. Graphics also played an important part in each artist’s body of work, with Chagall and Picasso each producing over 1,000 works on paper. In these graphic works, they often explored the same themes they pursued in other media. These graphic works are much more accessible and affordable as some of them exist in larger editions. Representative works from these larger editions are included in the exhibit.
Visit A Tribute to 20th Century Modern Art! The exhibit is on now through the end of October.
