IAIDQ presented Dr. Tom Redman (President of Navesink Consulting Group) with the 2011 Distinguished Member Award. This award recognizes IAIDQ members who have outstanding achievements in the field of information and data quality. At the same time, C. Lwanga Yonke (Data Quality Manager at Aera Energy LLC) was awarded with the 2011 Service Award. The IAIDQ Service Award recognizes persons with dedication and exceptional service to IAIDQ, to its members and to its Board of Directors.
Having started his career in research at Bell Labs, Tom has blended his academic background and training with practical, hands-on experience to create a successful business. Tom, also known as the “The Data Doc,” is a pioneer of and a huge contributor to the field of information and data quality. He was one of the first to analyze and write about the extent of data quality problems in U.S. organizations and to link the impacts of data quality problems to operational cost and business effectiveness. His 1998 paper “The Impact of Poor Data Quality on the Typical Enterprise,” which was published in the Communications of the ACM, is still one of the most referenced papers in the discipline. In addition to his research publications, he has authored a number of important books in our field including Data Quality: The Field Guide, Data Quality for the Information Age, Data Quality: Management and Technology, and most recently, Data Driven: Profiting from Your Most Important Business Asset. Three of these books are references that support the topic areas in the Information Quality Certified Professional Framework and Examination Specification recently developed by IAIDQ.
Lwanga Yonke’s award is in recognition to his commitment in the creation of many IAIDQ products and services. He has served as an Advisor to the Board of Directors since 2004, initiated the IAIDQ book club and webinars, and continuously strives to improve the Association’s web presence and operational processes. He has served as program chair for all IAIDQ conferences and has been instrumental in the development of the Information Quality Certified Professional credential and the IAIDQ Code of Ethics. His passion to better IAIDQ and to mentor other information and data quality professionals is truly inspirational.
Both Tom and Lwanga have played important roles in making IAIDQ what it is today. Tom is a co-founder of IAIDQ and has been a member since its inception and an advisor to its Board of Directors in its early years. Both Lwanga’s and Tom’s professional work and values are of the highest standards in the information and data quality profession. These awards are a small token of the gratitude from the Members and the Board of Directors for their hard work and investments into making IAIDQ the successful organization that it is today.
