As the peak holiday season approaches, holiday home insurance provider, British Insurance, has put together a Guide, reminding owners of their legal and health & safety obligations and offering tips on how to turn a mediocre let into something special.

As the peak holiday season approaches, holiday home insurance provider, British Insurance, has put together a Guide, reminding owners of their legal and health & safety obligations and offering tips on how to turn a mediocre let into something special.

Demand for European and UK holiday homes is particularly high from July to September and whilst the majority of owners are well-aware how to safeguard visitors against accidents or incidents, British Insurance believes its Guide is an invaluable reference tool for new and experienced holiday home renters.

The Guide discusses legal requirements, such as electric, gas, water, appliances, furniture/furnishings and fire regulations, covers health & safety issues including windows, open fires, bathrooms, nursery and play equipment, bunk beds, stairways, balconies, gardens and swimming pools, plus highlights areas where that extra attention to detail will be appreciated, ie detailing service stations/play areas on the route there and providing a welcome pack, household cleaning items, sample-sized toiletries, spare pillows, batteries, torches and books/puzzles etc.

It advises those with properties abroad to familiarise themselves with local regulations and emphasises the importance of having insurance, both in the UK and abroad, access to emergency help lines and meeting insurers’ security requirements.

Managing Director, Nel Mooy, comments: “A holiday home can be a great income generator, but it’s also a lot of hard work. For many seasonal preparation is second nature, however it’s always useful to have a checklist to refer to.
