This is telling our customers that not only do we have the newest technology in counterfeit detection equipment, but we also know how to use it effectively. This way they can rest assured that the parts they’re getting are authentic.

Smith & Associates, a quality leader in independent electronics distribution, has now achieved the status of CCAP-101 Certified for the Components Technology Institute, Inc. (CTI) Counterfeit Components Avoidance Program. The CCAP-101 establishes a set of standard procedures across the industry for authenticating electronic components, therefore reducing the risk of counterfeit parts entering customers’ supply chains. Gaining this certification is a significant step in Smith’s ongoing fight against counterfeit electronic components.
“CCAP is an intensive counterfeit detection program,” said Smith Quality Control engineer Mike McCalley. “To get the certification, we had to review and learn counterfeit detection techniques called out in specifications such as military and aerospace.” These new procedures have raised the bar for the standards of SmithSecure, Smith’s overarching quality initiative that treats on integrity in all facets of Smith’s testing, sourcing, service, and industry awareness.
“I think the biggest added value of the CCAP program is that we will be able to assure customers that we have a counterfeit detection process in place that is audited annually by an outside company,” said Chris Dang, Smith’s Director of Global Quality Control. “There are few certifications in the industry that do this. This is telling our customers that not only do we have the newest technology in counterfeit detection equipment, but we also know how to use it effectively. This way they can rest assured that the parts they’re getting are authentic.”
While counterfeit electronic components pose a major challenge to the electronics industry, certifications like the CCAP-101 help to make reliable practices an industry standard. Smith & Associates is pleased to attain this certification, and will continue making strides to ensure product integrity in all of its dealings.
Smith will now be listed on CTI’s website, http://www.cti-us.com/CCAP.htm, as a Certified Independent Distributor.
