Thorburn Associates Co-Founders Lisa A. Thorburn, LEED AP and Steven J. Thorburn, PE, LEED AP, CTS-D will present sessions for AIA NC Education Credits in Salisbury, NC on July 13 and Asheville, NC on July 14.
The Planning for Technology session will be conducted by Steven J. Thorburn, PE, LEED AP, CTS-D, CTS-I, nationally recognized for his teaching and consultations in acoustics and audiovisual communications and was recently named Educator of the Year by InfoComm International. This workshop provides the foundation needed to recognize the components of a successful learning space design. Those involved in the planning of learning spaces and the support of instructional technology will obtain an understanding of best practices as well as a useful Rules-of-Thumb to guide the initial planning efforts.
From open office plans and speech privacy to natural ventilation and environmental noise, the impact of LEED strategies on the acoustics of a building can be considerable. Lisa Thorburn, LEED-AP, CTS president of acoustic and technology engineering firm Thorburn Associates, will review several case studies specifically outlining the impact of LEED strategies and other sustainable energy practices on the acoustics of recently completed projects. This session will explore the challenges, solutions, and the importance of including an acoustical engineer in the design and code interpretation process.
