Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today the availability of Lexicomp On-Hand on HP TouchPad using HP webOS to expand the reach of Lexicomp’s information to more clinicians.
Lexicomp is a leading provider of medical information and clinical content solutions for the healthcare industry. They provide the tools necessary to help improve patient safety, ensure compliance, and elevate the quality of care patients receive.
Lexicomp On-Hand released for the HP TouchPad today, offering the most comprehensive medical application available to the healthcare market. Lexicomp strives to be at the forefront of emerging technology to offer the most innovative drug information and clinical content to improve efficiency and elevate the quality of care patients receive.
Lexicomp began more than 30 years ago offering independent clinical information to medical professionals. Today, they provide an integrated online, print and handheld software solution to more than 1,500 hospitals and hundreds of thousands of clinicians around the world, including U.S. military base and war zone medical facilities.
As part of the integrated solution, smartphones and tablet devices play a critical role in ensuring clinicians are able to make timely and accurate pharmacotherapy and prescribing decisions in the office or at the hospital bedside.
Lexicomp On-Hand for the TouchPad delivers comprehensive drug information databases to medical professionals who are interested in the larger screen and faster downloads that tablet devices offer.
“Our webOS app for TouchPad provides clinicians a larger, tablet sized view for easily viewing our drug information resources and especially specific content areas like charts and special topics,” says Steven Kerscher, Lexicomp’s Vice President and General Manager. “The HP TouchPad also offers unique user interface features, such as multi-tasking and card stacking - which are not available on other platforms.”
History of Innovative Solutions
Lexicomp began publishing drug information handbooks, which provided comprehensive drug information on medications, potential interactions and dosing. Lexicomp later developed electronic access to their library to give customers online access to the most accurate drug information as it becomes available.
Lexicomp On-Hand was first developed for Palm OS in 1999 to bring their drug information to personal digital assistants (PDAs).
“When the first handheld devices were introduced in the 90’s, it was evident we had to make our content available on handheld devices and at that time Palm was the leader.” Kerscher said. “Today we’re bringing our comprehensive information to new, innovative devices like the TouchPad running webOS.”
